about

I’m me which really means nothing in particular. I am from Baltimore, but have been living in Tokyo for five years. I enjoy drinking, reading, watching movies, photography, listening to music, and writing. I fell in love with literature and that carried me into films once I understood auteur theory. Understanding that a film is a director’s novel, the pen his camera, and actors his characters, I came to understand that style and prose came from overall shot style and composition. Photography came from wanting to imitate this and has since sparked an obsession. I only shoot film with a pair of Leicas and a little GR1s. With that said all photos on the site are my own. Also, music is something that has always been there. I listen to all types but with my blog I try to focus on Jazz 45’-70’, though in remaining nothing in particular I do deviate…
With this site I try to keep my film and literary criticisms as laudatory as possible. So if I like something I write about it, if not I don’t bother tearing to pieces the things I don’t like. Also, I write my reviews with the assumption that most won’t be familiar with the material, so these blogs are to give a general overview and drum up interest in films and novels that I think more people should know, and also as way to loosely organize my own thoughts on films as a basic reference point. I was approached by a good friend who asked me why I don’t write in a more professional matter and wondered why I waste time giving basic information instead of examining specific aspects of the films and novels that I critique and the reason is for the above stated purpose. I simply want to get as many people interested in these as possible, offering a foundation to develop their own insight.
